Today, the House Natural Resources Energy and Mineral subcommittee will hold a legislative hearing, and Wednesday the full committee will markup on an awful offshore bill entitled “SECURE American Energy Act.” This bill is the kitchen sink of industry wish lists including expediting scientifically documented dangerous seismic airgun blasting to search for oil and gas deposits, require inclusion of previously unexecuted lease sales in future five-year leasing programs, revoking presidential authorities to establish marine monuments, revokes presidential authority to permanently protect offshore areas from O&G leasing, establishes a perverse revenue sharing incentive for VA, NC, SC, GA, and AK, among a variety of other bad provisions affecting our community.

That being said, please find a social media toolkit here and join us on Facebook and Twitter at 2PM Tuesday, and 10AM Wednesday to push back against this awful bill and attack on our public lands.

If you only do one thing today, tweet this à   Our oceans are a public resource meant for fishing, tourism and recreation, not oil spills #ProtectOurCoast bit.ly/2xnIoTs

If your group wants to engage in offshore AND onshore messaging, please find a combined social media toolkit here.   Attaching Oceana’s fact sheet for the offshore section, the combined coalition fact sheet, and a coalition fact sheet for HR 3133, which has been embedded into this nasty bill.
