Urgent!! August 17 is deadline for comments on offshore drilling

We’re making it easy for you to tell the feds to keep offshore oil drilling out of the Atlantic. Business organizations should share this with their members.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management is accepting public comments until August 17th to start this two year process. Your comments in opposition are crucial to influencing the process going forward.

Reasons to oppose:

Opening new areas in the Atlantic poses unacceptable risks to coastal economies.

Every U.S. coast where offshore oil and gas is produced and transported has suffered multiple massive spills and billions of dollars in damages.

Environmental destruction of the Atlantic’s pristine coastline would be guaranteed.

Bi-partisan opposition to offshore testing and drilling is strong and growing.

Help support our pro bono law firm

Should the National Marine Fisheries Service and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management approve of seismic airgun blasting in the Atlantic, BAPAC is ready to go to court to stop the destructive process that is the first step to offshore oil drilling.

Our pro bono legal services will come from the South Carolina Environmental Law Project (SCELP). Founded in 1987, SCELP is a public interest, nonprofit organization. SCELP favors settling issues amicably and out of court, but when litigation is unavoidable for three decades SCELP has provided experienced counsel to fight for clean air and water, conservation of wildlife and natural resources, and the protection of healthy environment and communities.

SCELP relies almost entirely on charitable contributions from businesses, individual supporters and foundations. SCELP’s Wild Side Fundraiser is coming up on November 4th in Georgetown, SC.

But you don’t have to be there to give support.

Sponsorship packages are available. Please consider supporting the lawyers who are working for us pro bono to oppose seismic blasting and offshore drilling in the Atlantic.
